Digital Networks
The increasing use of computer software in film and TV production as well as programme distribution has resulted in considerably different workflows for production specialists. The utilisation of (high-speed) digital networks between broadcasters and production houses is also rising rapidly. Technological enhancements can dramatically reduce production times and lower production costs. For this to happen, however, infrastructure –i.e. computer-based production tools in conjunction with local and wide-area computer networks (LANs and WANs) – must be adapted to new conditions.
IRT devotes considerable time and energy not only to highly complicated network structures and concepts, but also to the adaptation of broadcast signals and applications to (high-speed) networks. For example, IRT made significant contributions during the planning, commissioning, and acceptance testing of HYBNET®, an input and distribution network for the German broadcaster ARD.
Thanks to their extensive specialised expertise and years of experience in the digital transmission of video/audio/data signals in LANs and WANs, IRT’s specialists not only are acutely aware of the requirements which are vital to broadcasting, but also generate appropriate solutions. IRT is always involved in the planning and implementation of suitable new network systems as a result of its close cooperation with broadcasting organisations, network operators, and industry leaders.
