Network Technologies
The increasing reliance on computer-based tools and digital (high-speed) networks in film and television production, contribution and programme distribution leads to dramatic changes in the involved workflows of broadcasting/production organisations. As a result, the use of digital (high-speed) networks between broadcasting organisations and/or production houses will rise as well. This can lead to shortened production times and, thus, reduced costs – but only if the accordingly adapted and optimized infrastructure (computer-based production tools working in tandem with local and wide area computer networks) contributes to the cost reduction.
For a long time already, the department "Broadcast Networks and Servers" works intensively on highly complex network structures and concepts. IRT has been playing a significant role, e.g., during the planning, implementation, and acceptance phases of ARD's distributed network HYBNET. We perform the evaluation of networks with respect to broadcast-specific requirements and submit optimization suggestions.
Our employees, with their solid expert knowledge and their comprehensive experience in the area of digital transmission of video, audio and data signals via LAN/WAN, work in close contact with the broadcasting corporations, network carriers and the industry when planning and realizing suitable new network systems.
