Television / Online / Audio
The "Television/Online/Audio" department oversees and coordinates projects as well as the completion of tasks in the field of television technology, radio technology and television sound.
Projects are planned either with the input of IRT's Associates or in cooperation with industry partners and thereafter carried out by specialised fields of Research and Development at IRT.
Television Technology
encompasses both picture recording (lighting, camera, television studio), storage and editing of picture contents (coding, archiving, remote contribution insert) and finally specific issues of picture reproduction. As well technical processing of additional information for video signals as development of infrastructure for multimedia-based services up to Triple Play belong to the responsibilities of this department.
Great significance is attached to the digitisation of video signals. Both advancing digitisation in television studios for years and technical support of broadcast organisations in introduction of interactive Digital Television are principal topics in this department. Furthermore we are concerned with aspects of utilisation of IP networks for radio services.

- Development and evaluation of migration scenarios for High Definition TeleVision HDTV
- Aspects of TV production in an IT-based environment, particularly with regard to file formats and metadata
- Specification of a convergence platform based on digital television and development of MHP-based middleware for set-top-boxes
- Development of mobile broadcast standard in Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) with main focus in coding and middleware
- Utilisation of IP-based channels for radio services
- Utilisation of TK network technologies for TV production and remote contribution insert
- HDTV broadcasting in wide area networks
Audio and Online
encompasses both television sound and acoustic design of studios, presentation studios and outside broadcasting vehicles.
The technical processing of additional information in radio broadcasting (such as Radio Data System RDS and Traffic Message Channel TMC) constitutes some principal responsibilities of this department, as does the advent of online radio services.
