HbbTV Test Harness – Enabling and simplifying HbbTV conformance testing of set-top-boxes and integrated digital television

The main attraction of the fair trade appearance at hall 10.2, booth K35 is the HbbTV Test Harness, which enables and simplifies HbbTV conformance testing of set-top boxes and integrated digital televisions (IDTV). Receiver manufacturers and network operators can easily integrate the comfortable testing environment into their custom hardware testing procedure, in order to efficiently and reliably validate all the use cases of the Test Suit. The test results, which are automatically generated for the test reports, are captured as screen shots by a digital video camera controlled by the HbbTV Test Harness.

Background for the developing of the HbbTV Test Harness is the regulation of the HbbTV consortium stating that all devices has to be successfully tested regarding the standard functionalities of the so-called Test Suite of the consortium. This demand, for instance, helps to ensure for proper functionality of the red button, for opening HTML-pages and the flawless navigation of HbbTV-applications by the users.

A further focus at IRT’s booth is on the Broadcast Server, the stand-alone PC-based playout system for DVB, HbbTV and IPTV, which provides precast applications with all necessary control signals to create a playout in DVB. HbbTV-applications can be connected among each other and synchronised with TV-content via stream-events. Beyond that, the server enables compiling own TV-transmitter bouquets as well as the playout of TV-channels together with Video-on-Demand-services. That way it is possible to present live-streams on end user terminals. The integrated DSM-CC carrousel generator allows inserting HbbTV-applications randomly into the DVB-multiplex.
For experimental and demonstration purposes a laboratory edition is the ideal solution to generate transport streams for DVB-S/S2, DVB-C, DVB-T and IPTV.

As a leading member of the international HbbTV-consortium, at ANGA Cable 2012 the IRT shows a comprehensive showcase for HbbTV, the standard solution of Hybrid-TV, with products, applications and varying receiver types.

HbbTV is also topic of the panel "Content-Distribution: IP ersetzt die Satellitenverbindungen?!" on June 12, at 16:45. IRT is represented by its CEO Dr.-Ing. Klaus Illgner-Fehns.
About HbbTV will be also discussed in the technology panel „Hybrid – Von der Quelle zum Kunden", on June 14, at 13:00, moderated by the IRT expert Klaus Merkel.
