DVB/IP Synchronizer

Synchronisation of encoded components for DVB and IPTV

IRT’s DVB/IP Synchronizer enables to synchronize existing components from DVB or IP services directly with the reference clock of other services, and, thus, to re-use or aggregate them in the easiest way for newly generated services.

The DVB/IP Synchronizer extracts service components, such as teletext, DVB-subtitling, or audio, and synchronizes these with the programme clock reference (PCR) of another service by modification of the PTS and DTS timestamps. The integrated timestamp editing allows to map any service components of a DVB-stream to the video component of another encoder, which carries the programme reference clock, without the need to decode/recode the processed service component.

An adjustable delay allows to compensate for any delay introduced by other hardware components, e.g. transcoders.

Typical application areas

  • cable or IPTV headends, compression centres: synchronization of audio, teletext, DVB-subtitling from an original input service with an external video component that is e.g. transcoded from MPEG-2 to H.264
  • synchronization of teletext, DVB-subtitling from an SD service with a simulcasted HD service
  • repair of faulty DTS/PTS timestamps for any DVB component with constant bit rate
