In the project "Multimedia content follows person" under the direction of the Fraunhofer ESK, a consortium consisting of Audi, BMW Forschung und Technik GmbH, Loewe, SpaceNet, and the research institutes IRT and Fraunhofer IIS is researching how media can be used in a more individual and cross-device way in the future.
The researchers' idea is that in the future video and audio should be seamlessly played back from the media server at home not only to television sets but also to smart phones and entertainment systems in cars. The research project is mainly investigating three scenarios: the continuation of watching movies and TV shows from the point where watching was stopped at home, the use of audio-video playlists from a media server, and the continuation of watching live formats. The project is sponsored by the Bavarian Ministry of Economics, Technology, Transport and Infrastructure and was initiated by the cluster BICCNet. First research results are expected in 2012.
