ROMEO

The ROMEO project targets the challenges of synchronised live 3D media delivery to groups of users. The concurrency of the media experience will enable users to collaborate and to jointly enjoy multi-view 3D content. This will facilitate application scenarios such as social TV and high quality real-time collaboration. For IRT, the three key aspects in the project are 3D visual attention modelling, hybrid play-out solutions (e. g. via DVB-T2 and P2P), as well as spatial audio coding and rendering.

EMC and EEMC

One of IRT’s responsibilities consists of studying electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and environmental electromagnetic compatibility (EEMC). Whereas EMC concerns the compatibility of devices and transmission equipment with broadcasting services, EEMC refers to the impact which electromagnetic fields have on human health.

Field-Strength Predictions

Predictions of coverage are essential for planning and preserving terrestrial broadcasting services. IRT has developed a large array of prediction methods; the proper model can be selected for any given task. IRT’s 3-D model delivers especially precise field-strength predictions since it considers digital terrain models, orographical data and explicit multipath propagation.

Frequency-Planning Synthesis

The synthesis of allocation plans not only results in the creation of new frequency plans, but also the addition of supplementary frequency use to existing plans. The same methods are employed in this case as during the compilation of new allocation plans. Thanks to modern planning tools and years of experience, IRT has the expertise necessary for investigating and demonstrating additional options for frequency utilisation in existing plans.
