Analysis of Interoperability Issues with MHP 1.0.2 and the 1.0.2.b Test Suite

For focussing of the work and for development of new tests for MHP 1.0.3, MHP-CONFIDENCE applied the following approach: Starting from a cross-check of the MHP 1.0.2.b Test Suite created from the MHP 1.0.2. specification (see left part of fig.), an analysis of the coverage was created. In an additional activity, feedback on actual problems with MHP receivers was gathered during an MHP interoperability workshop held in early 2004. During this workshop implementers, application developers and broadcasters were interviewed and further information was gathered by project partners from their various engagements in the MHP community and from their customers.

Following an in depth analysis of deficiencies and the feedback gathered , a series of areas that would benefit from improved conformance testing were identified and prioritised public extract of Deliverable 03:

  • Font Metrics and Text Rendering
  • Access to DVB-SI
  • Service selection and Application Management, Lifecycle
  • DSMCC Object Carousels
  • Locators
  • Double buffering and graphics
  • HAVi
  • Conditional Access API and Common Interface
  • Subtitling Text rendering and font metrics

On this basis a set of detailed specifications and guidelines for sub-contracts and test developments for MHP 1.0.3 were developed by MHP-CONFIDENCE.

On 26th March 2004, MHP-CONFIDENCE responded to the 4th Request for Technology on Test Suite (RFT) issued by DVB and announced their activities and the intention to contribute to the next version of the official MHP Test Suite.

Based on the analysis described above, the project made three test submissions until June 2005 (see Publications).
