New recording technique for improved ball sound from football

matches in television.

The Institut für Rundfunktechnik will present an innovation for football television

broadcasts at the International Broadcasting Conference IBC from September 12-16,

2008, in Amsterdam. For the first time, the Munich institute will present a prototype of a

new microphone system that is capable of delivering ball sounds to living rooms during

football broadcasts such that viewers think they are in the midst of the field. The

improved sound of passes, drop shots and goalpost shots is enabled by two directional

microphones that highly dynamically and automatically track the position of the football.
