5G-VICTORI (VertIcal demos over common large scale field trials for rail, energy and media industries) will conduct tests on innovative use cases for the vertical industries of transport, energy, media and factories of the future, with particular emphasis on cross-industry applications. The 5G network technologies developed in the predecessor projects 5G-XHaul and 5GPICTURE will be used for this purpose.

5G-VICTORI will generate a pan-European research platform from the existing ICT-17 infrastructures 5G-VINNI, 5GENESIS, 5G-EVE and the 5G UK test field and transform these previously closed infrastructures into open environments. This will make resources and functions accessible to the information and communications sector as well as other industries. New services can thus be shared as needed and deployed in diverse ecosystems. Coordinator of the 5G-VICTORI consortium is IHP Microelectronics, an institute of the Leibniz Association.

Important media partners are IRT, RBB and Fraunhofer FOKUS. Together with Deutsche Bahn, these partners will implement a pilot infrastructure to efficiently provide media content to rail passengers at speeds of up to 500 km/h. The project will be carried out in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn (German Federal Railways). Together, mobile media distribution via IP and a Content Distribution Network (CDN) are to be validated in the (edge) cloud. MPEG SAND will also be used as server-side DASH control. One of the use cases to be investigated will be the portable media library with caching in the train. The possibility of an integration and further development of 5G Broadcast will also be explored.

The project startet on June 1st 2019 and has a duration of 3 years.
